Ottawa (Ontario), November 23, 2015 – Ottawa Pop Expo’s third edition ended yesterday with several thousand fans attending the two-day event. The annual fan convention showcased multiple genres in pop culture, including science-fiction, fantasy, horror, video games, animation, toys and comic books. Over two splendid days, fans in an out of costume beamed and smiled as they posed for pictures, attended celebrity Q&A’s, or hunted down that elusive collectible.

Fans had the chance to meet some of their favorite celebs, shop for the holidays, play board game, take pictures with costumed fans, and kids were delighted in the new kid section that scifi and super-hero themed laser tag and obstacle courses. On hand were guests from movies and TV series, including Zoie Palmer (Dark Matter/Lost Girl), Aaron Ashmore (Killjoys/Smallville), Daniel Logan (Star Wars - Episode II: Attack of the Clones), Ray Park (Star Wars/X-Men) and Brett Dalton (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). However, the highlight of the guest encounters was the science fiction and Canadian icon William Shatner (Star Trek / T.J. Hooker). On Friday, November 20, William Shatner took to the stage at the EY Centre (with Montreal bagels and smoke meat), looking back at nearly 50 years of Star Trek and an illustrious career that started in Ottawa’s theatre scene.

The Ottawa Pop Expo organizers were able to raise several thousand dollars to purchase toys, games, comics and geeky apparel for kids at Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), just in time for the Holidays. In addition, the Capital City Garrison, part of the 501st Legion, was also able to raise over $1,500 for Make-A-Wish Canada and The Doctor Who Society of Canada managed to raise $700 for CHEO’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

With Ottawa Pop Expo wrapped, the organizers will now be getting the ball rolling for the fifth edition of Ottawa Comiccon, taking place on May 13 to 15, 2016 at the EY Centre. The yearly comic and pop culture event will have special block of tickets for sale in by mid-January. Guests will be announced in the months leading up to Ottawa Comiccon.
